Sewing, partying and more sewing...

I have been busy working on my new Sampler quilt. Since we had 2 snow days this week, I got more done than I would have otherwise. I have the 12 main blocks finished and am working on the alternate blocks. I picked out the border fabrics yesterday after class so have everything I need to finish this quilt. This is another one of the blocks. I love the dainty look of the fan blades.
I had a nice quilt salad when I was finished trimming half square triangles.

I was surprised last night when a dinner outing with my daughters turned into a surprise birthday party for me! They changed the restaurant at the last minute and when I got there I was met with  a group of family and friends  to celebrate. What a surprise! I don't know how they kept it a secret, because this was the 3rd planning of the party. The first 2 were cancelled because of family illness and a family funeral, so I guess 3rd time is a charm. It was great fun!

Had a great time during UFO day yesterday as well....lots of sewing, and gabbing! I will post more pix of UFO day as well as sampler blocks in the next couple days...need to go sew now!

I love your "quilt salad." Haven't heard that term before but it's perfect!
Is the fan blade block an original design? I don't think I've seen it before, and it's one I definitely want to remember.

Congrat's on your birthday, Jean. Tricky daughters! It sounds like you have a lovely surprise with family and friends.

Happy Birthday! I'm surprised it was still a secret with 3 plannings too.
