I will be teaching a modern version of the Cathedral Windows block in an upcoming class so I wanted to try the traditional method as well. That way I can show the traditional method during my class.
Making them the traditional way involves a lot of hand sewing, which I am not opposed to, but seem to have trouble finding the time to do it. You start out by folding a large square, folding and folding until it's not large anymore. Then you sew those together. I have been working on this sample off and on for about a month. I don't want it completely finished, as I want to be able to show the different aspects of making it, but I do need to sew in a couple more windows before the class on Sept. 22.

I love the Cathedral Window pattern. I remember a big one that my grandmother had on her bed. It was gorgeous.
I've made one with about 4 blocks just to try it, but I'm really interested in the modern way of doing it. I get the feeling it's much faster. Hoping you will be teaching it again since I can't make it to the class.
I've made a pillow top the original way and loved doing it...probably because I also love doing hand stitching. It received a lot of attention on my blog. Love your work.
I wish I could go to your class! I look at the 'traditional' Cathedral Block quilts and can't get my head around how it's done!
