Polka-dot club

I forgot all about Christina's Polka dot club posting which ends today, so am posting this picture of a lady at one of my bag classes with her bag and her polka dot shirt on!!! We laughed when she pulled out her fabric that day as she matched!

Pretty bag!

Look what came in the mail the other day! When I participated in the sew-in a few weeks ago, I won a gift. It is a handmade bag from Leween!! Isn't it cute?
It was so sweet of her to give prizes, and handmade ones at that! She is a friend I made when I joined an online group a few years ago.

Jean's Stimulus Plan & quilting

I decided to do my civic duty yesterday and help keep my local quilt shops in business. I went shopping with my SIL at Seams to Be Quilt Shoppe in Plattsmouth, Ne. and was on the search for batiks as I used a lot of mine on the curvy pieced quilt. I managed to find some on sale too, so even better. I found a couple dotty fabrics too...for my collection. We love this shop as they always have new fabrics, sale fabrics and friendly people.
Today I am quilting. I quilted this baby quilt for my SIL...she made the quilt as a gift for a friend. I think the curlie-qs go well with the simple pattern. Hope she likes it too!

Now on to work on something I started yesterday. I have taught a quilt with tessellating blocks, but used a background color between the blocks. So have wanted to try interlocking the colors. I will post a pic later...hopefully when it is done.

Monday off...it's great!

I finished quilting this quilt today for a friend. I used a new panto I got for Christmas & I like how it turned out. I like the way the feathers interlock from row to row. Hope she likes it.
I mentioned yesterday that I went to help my folks celebrate their 59th anniversary. Here they are with their cake. What a great way to spend Valentines Day!

Lucky for me, I get another Sunday tomorrow....

Yesterday after class I went to Earling, my hometown, to celebrate my folk's 59th wedding anniversary. We had a good time, dinner, visiting...today I got a quilt on the machine, and quilted 4 or 5 rows, then went shopping for my DH's birthday present. I didn't get any more quilting done, as had to cook, have dinner, talk....tomorrow is another day and I am off so will get another chance to sew.

Seasonal Cottages & Heather's in a contest!!!

Before Christmas some blogging ladies were exchanging cottages, I think it started with Nannette at Freda's Hive. I thought they were so cute, but hadn't gotten in on the fun. I thought it would be fun to exchange with some friends. So after checking with Nanette ( I wasn't sure who's pattern it was) I am hosting swaps with several groups of friends. We are doing seasonal cottages, every 2 months. These are a couple I did for snowy Jan/Feb.
Or how about Valentiney Jan/Feb... We are shooting for 6 exchanges through the year. I think it will be fun. Thanks Nanette for a great idea!

Heather over at Needles & Pens is entered in a photo contest...go check out her photo and vote for the best one....hers of course! Just go here and vote for # 16 Needles & Pens.

Sunday ...quilting....it all goes together somehow

I have spent the day quilting. Quilted a beautiful quilt, see above (not mine, though I wish I had made it, then I could keep it!) with a meandering stitch. Then worked on a new tablerunner I want to offer as a class. The day went well, I guess, just wish the weekend wasn't over already! I might go have a margarita popsicle....yes, I froze the leftovers!

Saturday & margaritas

The weather was gorgeous again today, about 60* I think! I had quilting class for awhile, then ran around a bit, then home to cook. After dinner my friend Jo stopped by and we had a nice visit (and a margarita). Yummy!

I want to work on quilting a quilt tomorrow, then maybe a little sewing too.

Top finished!

I can't get good pix in this house unless it is daylight, so I photoshopped it to get some of the shadow out. This is closer to the color it is. I do like the borders.
Now how should I quilt it?

Almost finished...

Here is a pic of the green sashing as a narrow border with the leafy border. I am really sold on those leaves...not sure why. I just think it needs to end with green or it is too pink. I think this is what I will do.
Smokey was peeking over the top after I took this, wondering why the flash!!! She is a great helper when quilting!
Off to do borders!

The curves are sewn!

Now that I have it this far I think I should've switched the greens around....I think the sashing green shows up too much. Does that ever happen to you? Maybe I have just looked at it too much the past few days.
You can see the curves though.
Several people asked how you do this. I tried to take pix, they are not the best, but hopefully they will help. Here is the triangle with the folded edge pushed up slightly...notice the opposite triangle hasn't been sewn yet.

Press the folded edge back to make the curve. That's all it takes!
Now to decide what to do about another border...does it need one? I like the leafy border, but does it meed more??? Maybe it doesn't need a border. It is about 33" x 33" right now.
What do you think?

Started the curves

I was excited to start sewing down the curves and I did get some of them done. You just fold back the folded side of the triangle, and sew down the curve it makes. It just makes a gentle curve, but I really like how it looks.
Here is a close-up of the curves and triangles not curved yet. I am quitting for tonight.

I'm still working on it

I have been working on my little quilt that I started during a sew-in yesterday and got the center sewn together. Now to put a border on it so I can start sewing the folds over.

The blocks are ready to put together.

The blocks are ready to put together...I have to leave for a bit, but will continue when I get back.

More Sunday sew-in.....

I'm still sewing and taking a chat/pic break. Here are the corners...made 4.
Working on the middle. BTW that little dark pink square in the middle is 1 1/2"!
Here is the middle finished.
Back to the machine. Hope you are all having a nice quilty Sunday. I might have to go for a walk soon as it looks nice outside.

Sunday Sew-in continued

This is so much fun, working on a small project for a change. The ladies from my online group are chatting in between so that is fun too! See below to see what I am making.

I have some little blocks sewn together. Notice the triangles. They are an important part of this quilt.
See ya later!

Sunday Sew-in

Today, some friends from my Yahoo group Country Quilters are having an online sew-in so I thought it would be a good time to make Mexican Stars by Southwind. It is a smallish wallhanging so if I can get in some sewing time, I might be able to finish.

These are the fabrics I am using, the pink is the background. I really wanted to use the green floral, and didn't think it would show up on white. I got it all cut out last night so I am ready to go!!! Hopefully I will have some pictures to show you later!
