I have several ladies interested in a crazy quilting class, so am working on a small project (pillow) so they can learn some of the techniques and stitches. My friend Jo is going to teach the stitches part as she is much better at that than I am and knows more stitches and their variations. So I turned this over to her last night so she can work her magic. I think maybe I made it too symmetrical instead of having a more chunky look. What do you think?
I think that every one developes a style. Maybe this is just your style. I like it.
ReplyDeleteThe chunky look is made by a different process than strip piecing it log cabin style. I use the machine fancy stitches when I do the other method and anywhere from 2-3 sides are turned under and stitched down. I'll take a picture of a couple blocks and email them to you.
ReplyDeleteThe style you have made works too and like Julianne said, everyone will create their own style.
What I think is: I wish I lived in Council Bluffs. What a fun class that would be.
ReplyDeleteI have done several crazy quilts, with and without the stitches, either way turned out real nice. Love the square!!
ReplyDeleteI think there are all different styles of crazy quilting. I've been saving clothing items and searching out silk ties at yard sales and thrift stores for a crazy quilt one day. This was inspired by a booklet on Crazy Quilt Stitches I picked up somewhere and fell in love with.
ReplyDeleteOne of these days....
I love it. It is beautiful. Love the colors.
ReplyDeleteCrazy quilts are whatever you want them to be. Skinny or chunky -- you're using a variety of fabrics. Lovely combination, Jean. From a distance, your center fabric looks like embroidery. Random or planned?
ReplyDeleteI think it is perfect. I can just visualize this into a victorian type pillow.
ReplyDeleteI love the colours in this and the stitching will really make it sing. What a great way for the ladies to learn the technique.
ReplyDeletei love it! especially in batiks! are the different stitches added by hand or machine? i would love it if you could post it when it's done...and maybe give me a few tips or a little tutorial?
ReplyDeleteI really love the block! The fabrics really make it shine. :D
ReplyDeletegreat block and as others say everyone has their own style. Some just do the stack and slash and keep going until it is really chunked up but I like the wonky log cabin style you did. Can't wait to see the finished pillow.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks good and CRAZY!
