The Deep Dark Cave & 200th Post!

We went to Fantastic Caverns while in Springfield also. They take you on a riding tour through the cave. It was interesting and fun. Here is one of the sinkholes.....scary, though it doesn't look like it on this picture. One of them went down 35 ft.
Beautiful stalagmites and stalactites. I always get mixed up on which is which, though!
There was actually a stage in here and back in the 20's they had concerts in this cave!
Here we are leaving, most people had to duck. The kids on here were brave...one adult got off when we were just barely inside and walked back out...claustrophobia maybe?

This is my 200th post, can you believe it? so I am cooking up a giveaway to celebrate! Stay tuned....

  1. Congrats on 200 posts!!! AND....here is the way I used to teach my students to remember between stalactites and stalagmites...........the word CEILING starts with a C so stalaCtites are on the ceiling. The word GROUND starts with a G....so stalaGmites go up from the ground. They seemed never to have trouble remembering after that little "letter trick".

  2. stalactites stick tight to the cieling, stalagmites might reach the top. we have a lot of caverns around here. congrats on 200.

  3. I too was always taught to remember the c for ceiling and g for ground - never got it wrong since. I love the formations you get to see in caves although I have to admit that they do not rate as my favourite place. I did, however, go to an all night concert in Chislehurst Caves in South London in the sixties. Round every corner there was a different band playing - brilliant.

  6. Sounds like a great experience for you, but I could have been the lady sneaking out. The claustrophobia seems to be getting worse as I get older. Oh to be young and carefree again.
Major congratulations on your 200th post!

  9. Congratulations on your 200th.

The way I was taught about the stalagmites and stalagtits was that the tites had to hang on tight or they would fall down and the mites might make it to the top.

  10. Very nice. I saw something similar in former Yugoslavia (1975) It was quite imposing!

And also on being able to go into these caves! I'm pretty sure I would be too scared to go in!
