More sampler fun!

When I got to class on Tuesday night, Pat had her finished Row by Row Sampler to show off! What a beauty! Plus Dianne had been sewing with the Tuesday sewing group and had her rows sewn vertically on her Honeycomb Waffle quilt. Lots of color and 3-D goodness.

Most of them got their Ribbon block finished last night and it looked great with their blocks from last time.

I spent time last  night working on some flyers, and other class related stuff. Tonight is probably more of the same, but it's good to get it finished! I want to start quilting the new quilt, but it will probably have to wait until the weekend.

Cindy's Fly Away Home Sampler

 Cindy finished her Fly Away Home Sampler and brought it to the first class of the Highlights sampler to show it off. This sampler has a labor intensive border that is really pretty when finished, but lots of half square triangles in the process.

We had fun checking out everyone's fabric selections for Highlights and they all got their Dutchman's Puzzle block finished. They used the no waste method for some great results!

They also started work on the Odd Man Out block, and we had one finish...the rest got a good start on it. Many of the quilters like this format for making a quilt as they can try some different blocks and techniques and work on it over the 6 month period, but have time to work on other projects as well. Plus the group sewing together feels like an old fashioned sewing bee at times.

 I realized the other day that my bi-annual retreat is next week! You know how you plan and look forward to something for a long time and then realize it's almost here! I had that kind of moment. Now I have to figure out what I will be working on. I have a few new ideas for quilts but haven't had time to work on them much lately, so guess I'd better find time or I will just be sitting there watching everyone else sew!

New beginnings for a new Sampler Club

The Highlights Sampler Club Group One met for the first time last night. We spent some time oohing and aaaahing over the new fabrics they were going to cut up for this quilt. That's part of the fun, isn't it? enjoying the fabrics?

They learned a new way to make no waste flying geese, and were amazed at how quickly they came together. This technique works well if you are very careful about your seam allowances and need four that are just alike.

As you can see, there are lots of fun colorways...

I have a second group making this quilt beginning later in the month, so you will see a lot of blocks from this sampler design.

Sewing with friends...and other catching up

 I can’t believe that I have been MIA for a week. It’s been a busy, but enjoyable week of work, classes and family.

 I spent last Sat. sewing with a couple of friends. Dianne worked on her Turning Cartwheels quilt…it is looking so good. She just needs to decide on a final border.  I saw her again on Tuesday night for Sampler Club and she had started on the pieced backing.  I love her floral fabric!

 I worked on some samples for my demo tomorrow at Cut UP and Quilt last Sat. and then finished all of the blocks for the new sampler (as yet unnamed). I spent Sunday sewing the blocks together. I auditioned several fabrics for the borders, and have decided on the two in the picture. Now to get them on!

 Both Sampler Clubs went well and here are pictures from both nights of classes. It’s fun to put the blocks on the design wall and get a preview of how the quilts will look. The students are not making the same quilts. Some are and some chose to make a different quilt design. That’s why there are so many different blocks from only 2 clubs. So it’s fun and busy for me!

 My daughter and I spent the yesterday with family in my hometown, so it was a wonderful Thanksgiving. I haven't decided if I am going to go shopping or stay home and sew. I would love to get the borders sewn on the new sampler so sewing might win out! Are you shopping today?

A new sampler

 I've been working on a new sampler for the past several weeks. I got the alternate blocks finished on Sunday. I have seven of the bright block centers finished last week, but now need to frame them. I had to do one just to see how it looks!

Progress

I spent most of Sunday working on blocks for the new sampler. I had cut all of the fabric for the eight black and white blocks last week and finished one of them. So I spent Sunday working on the sherbet colored blocks. It's coming along and I love the fabrics I chose...so happy!
