Stringpiecing fun

There was a lot of stringpiecing fun going on last Saturday during the Stringpiecing Extravaganza. The quilters could choose which stringpiecing design they wanted to make, learning how to make all three in the process. Elsie wanted to make the Tangled in the Kite Strings version, using her batik scraps. Very vibrant beginnings!

Bettie and Karen liked the Corner the Stringpiecing Market the best, and make some good progress on their quilts.

I did a demo on making the Summer Fun Stringpiecing quilt as well, so they would be able to make that one at a later date. This one incorporates pieced hexagons with whole hexagons and is great fun.

Bettie also brought her Bluebird quilt to show and have quilted at Cut Up and Quilt. She used all scraps!

I spent some time yesterday working on a new quilt from the Cultural Fusions book...love how these blocks are turning out! I'm combining 2 layouts into one, as I liked them both and think it will look awesome. (Ok, maybe I couldn't decide between them either.) I love free cutting, and this book lets us do just that.

I have 3 days off from school this week for spring break so plan on sewing up a storm!

Spring Break!

I haven't had any classes this week, so I've been playing catch up both here and at work. Still lots to be done, but I'm on Spring Break for a few days, so that will help!

Summer Fling stringieced quilt
I took the Summer Fling stringpieced quilt to Cut Up and Quilt on Monday so they could hang it on display for the class in May. I had so much fun making this quilt out of lots of bits and pieces from past quilts. It's almost like taking a walk down memory lane as you remember the project you originally bought the fabric for. I even used a few pieces I didn't like as much, as they add contrast and interest.

I had a nice chat with Becky while we hung the quilt...it's always fun to go in and see what's new and what they have been working on.
I worked on paperwork Tuesday night (not very interesting, but needed) and spent last night watching Dovekeepers. What a great miniseries!

I have more paperwork to catch up on this morning, and need to start going through quilts and planning for a presentation/trunk show I'm doing next week. I've been planning it in my head for several weeks. It's hard to know how many quilts to take, so that's the first order of business. Then decide the order they need to be in. Lots to do so I'd better go! Happy Thursday!

Stringpiecing Workshop

We had a great day yesterday during the Stringpiecing Workshop. I don't think there is anything more fun than using up some of the leftover fabrics from previous projects.
Guilt-free quilting for sure!
No big fabric purchases for this one!
So you really feel good about yourself making this quilt!
Everyone came with their strips all nicely packaged in tubs and bags.

But you can see that by the end of the day, the strings seemed to be multiplying...all over the table!
Stringpiecing is so relaxing, no matching, no worrying, just sew, sew, sew...Everyone got lots done!
We had a full house....the classroom I use isn't all that big, so we arrange things the best way we can!
Makes for some cozy sewing and lots of great conversation!
This is just one type of stringpiecing. There are many more, including one I demonstrate in a tutorial you will find along the right side of my blog.
You can use any size of strings, so the more the merrier!
One student had to leave early, so I didn't get pix of her and her blocks.
This is what it looks like at my house when I stringpiece!

Stringpiecing is great on so many levels, but I think one of the best things about it is that any level of quilter can stringpiece!  It is great to do when you feel like sewing, but don't want to think too much, or have to be so careful. I have taught other stringpiecing classes, including the Spiderweb Stringpiecing, and Corner the Stringpiecing Market, but love this basic block!
