Curvy Saturday

I spent the day helping students cut and sew together their curvy Central Park blocks. Sherbet colors for her lights...
Lots of shades of purple for hers...see the black and whites sprinkled through?
Now we see some darker fabrics starting to blend in with the lighter as we added some mediums to the mix.
The purples are joined by grays....so pretty! We liked the fact that Betty matched her quilt!
After I got home from class, I pieced the backing fabric together for my newest sampler. I had taken it to the store so people interested in taking the class could see it, but I decided to bring it home and quilt it and then rehang it there. So I got it prepped and ready for some Sunday quilting. More on that tomorrow....now to get Monday started!

A Little Progress...

I spent a little time last night quilting. I'm using Leafage, by Keryn Emerson. It's one of my favorite pantos and I'm not sure why...but I really like it. I like curvy patterns and this one covers well and quilts evenly.

I spent some time looking for a fabric for the binding and I'm considering this purple batik. I want the binding to be dark since the quilt goes from lighter to darker on the edges.

The border fabric is a combination of blue, navy, black and purple, so I think it might work and will look good with the goldish/brownish with pink  backing fabric.
At school, I'm preparing for my bookfair in two weeks. I spent some time working on the letter home yesterday and some other paperwork that has to be finished. I want to hang the posters today when I get there. Once I open after the kids arrive, I have a hard time working on other things! I'm usually busy helping kids find books and checking them out. Right now I have a large pile of books to put away...sigh....hopefully I will find the time to work on that today too!

Quilty Sunday

A few years ago I made this curvy quilt, Central Park, and  taught several classes on it. Its gentle curves make teaching this technique pretty easy. I've decided to teach the class again, but I wanted to quilt it first. (it's been aging, ok?)

I had sewn the back together, so it was just waiting for a chance to be quilted! I loaded it and quilted a few rows today. I hope to get it finished by the end of the week. I don't get much quilting done at night, so we'll see how that works out.

I like the gentleness of the curves and the idea of blending the colors in a colorwash effect. I used mostly batiks, though I threw a few blenders in too. I'm quilting it with Signature TyeDye,  a variegated thread with bright colors.
I am getting excited about traveling to Des Moines on Saturday for the AQS quilt show...I can't wait to see my quilt there! If you travel to the show and see it, please let me know!
Off to start my Monday!

Saturday class

Saturday I taught the Central Park quilt (aka the Lava Lamp quilt) class to some quilters in Dunlap IA. Sort of my old stompin' grounds...I grew up about 8 miles from there so know the town well, or I used to anyway. They have a wonderful parish hall where they meet and sew with their guild.

I will be excited to see how these quilts turn out!

After class my folks & I went to a local park where my sisters were camping. Great time...great food...great bonfire...
