Wall art up

I ended up just adding a couple borders and  putting a back on the Eric Carle panel as it is hanging over a door to another room, so is basically a curtain. We have no plans to use this door, and it could be disruptive if kids are peeking in at that class as they choose books. 

I really wanted to use this old bookcase that was left by the previous school, but the outside and top was so stained and discolored. I love the runner on it!

 I got my wall art hung yesterday.

The front corner of the room. I also moved some books around yesterday to even out the shelves. When I unpacked, I wasn't sure how the books were going to fit on the cases I had, so I put more on the shelves than is good for browsing.

Grouchy Ladybug

 Last year I made some wall art and pillows using fabric featuring the author Eric Carle's books. Recently I found a new release in that series featuring the Grouchy Ladybug. I thought it was so cute and knew I could make something out of it to match what I had already made.

 This fabric is the same border, over and over, with these cute sayings. The background is white, not a very good picture!

 I also got a panel of the ladybugs, just because I knew if I didn't I would regret it.

 I cut the borders apart, sewed them back together putting the Grouchy Ladybug picture in the middle of one of them, and hemmed them. I am going to use one on a bookcase, and the other on a table, I think. Unless I think of something else when I get to school tomorrow.

I still have another panel that I bought at the quilt show last year. I have a window between the library and a classroom that I want to cover, so think that it will do the trick! I measured the window one day, but forgot to bring the measurements home so I think I will take it to school tomorrow so that I can see what I need to do make it work for that space.

There were a few things I REALLY needed....

Now you know I would never buy anything at the quilt show unless I truly needed it. I found some MUCH NEEDED new pantos there, aren't they gorgeous?

 I especially like this one and am anxious to try it out.

I used some of my asian prints recently on a tabletopper...you all are my witnesses...

 so it's ok to REPLACE those fabrics, right? Plus I have plans to make my youngest daughter a quilt using these prints.

 I did find this Eric Carle wallhanging too. You might remember the wall art and pillows I made using fabrics from this line. I wanted this too, and the shops where I got the others were out of it.

The vendor selling these had many "words" to use in wallhangings and quilts of all sizes. It will be fun to come up with something cute to make with this. 

Tonight the beginning quilters meet to finish their tops, so I might have some pictures soon. Saturday I am teaching the Lava Lamp Quilt (Central Park) class in Dunlap, IA, then heading to Earling to spend some time with family.

Eric Carle pillows

You might remember the canvases I covered a few weeks ago for the library at school. I had some fabric left. It niggles at me, figuring out what to make out of the leftovers.

I bought 2 - $4.00 pillows at Walmart.

I cut them in half, shoved the stuffing inside and finished off the cut edge with seam binding. Yea, I know, not really my best sewing, the stuffing kept trying to escape, ok? but they are sewn shut and no raggedy edge.

Do they look more professionally sewn this way? (no closeups please!) They turn out about 12" x 18".

I started off with this fabric that I didn't actually use on a canvas.  I always make pillow cases envelope style...easier to take off and wash without ruining the pillow.

I love the fireflies! and that hungry caterpillar.

And of course, Brown Bear, Brown Bear.

 I was a little short of number fabric to overlap for the envelope back, so added the "what do you see?" panel to the front, which gave me more for the back.

I am taking these to school too.

Teaching the first session of Beginning Quilting tomorrow night. It's always fun to meet new quilters!

Wall art at school

I hung the wall art on Monday that  I made using Eric Carle fabrics. I have some fabric left so might make some pillows.

Taught a Sampler class tonight...the ladies were paper piecing. Most of them find paper piecing daunting so they don't always enjoy it, but it went well tonight.
