Fade to Pink class

I had a great time teaching the Fade to Pink class on Saturday. The ladies had their pieces all cut so we got right to sewing! There are 6 versions of the same block to make, so they made one of each. Now they can go back and make the required number of blocks and will be ready to arrange the blocks. I love the colors they chose and think they will be gorgeous!

This is the quilt that was in the August/September McCalls Quick Quilts magazine. I wonder how many people have started/made this quilt? I would love to see each and every one of them so if you are making this quilt, please share pictures!
Another student brought in her version of Circle and Spin to show me before class. I love it when people show and tell the projects from classes I've taught. I love what she did with the Stonehenge fabrics and the piano key border.

I have the Sampler 19  class tonight, so look forward to seeing them and their finished blocks from last class. Happy Monday!

Fade to Pink in McCalls Quick Quilts magazine and a giveaway!

Fade to Pink
I am excited to share some news...my quilt, Fade to Pink is in the newest edition of McCalls Quick Quilts magazine!
I'm not sure how many people take pictures of their quilts coming home from a journey (possibly really silly?), but it's almost as exciting getting it back as it was to send it. Especially since I knew there would be advance copies in the box with the quilt! They even sent me a couple of magazines to share...more about that in a minute.
The cover is so summery and pretty!
Now for a sneak peek into the magazine. I have always loved quilt magazines...where else can you get 10 - 12 project patterns for $6? The inspiration alone is worth that much!
This quilt is becoming well traveled...it was accepted into the AQS Modern Quilt Challenge at the Des Moines show last year. Since Des Moines is fairly close, I was able to go and see it there with friends.

Here are some closeups of the quilt as I took it off the quilting machine. I used the Leafage panto by Keryn Emmerson to quilt an all over pattern. I like the way this panto interlocks from row to row.

Because I'm so excited about this publication, I'm hosting several giveaways over the next week!  McCalls Magazine generously gave me two copies of the magazine to give to two lucky quilters! You will love this issue, believe me!

Kimberly at Fat Quarter Shop gave me a $40 gift certificate to give to one lucky quilter!Who wouldn't want to win that! If you haven't been to visit Fat Quarter Shop lately, now is your chance to see all of the gorgeous fabrics they have. It's fun to shop at your leisure from the convenience of your home.

Enter NOW! and stay tuned for more next week! Just a reminder: if you come up as noreply comment, I won't be able to contact you if you win. Please put your email address in the comment!

And the winners are...

Twist and Shout

It's been fun celebrating Twist and Shout's publication in McCalls Quick Quilts magazine. I had three contests this past week...the first one was for one of my patterns.

Missy Shy won and she asked for the Miss Tess pattern.
McCalls generously agreed to give 5 of my readers a copy of this issue. Those winners are:
Betsy
WhoMom
Barbara Woods
SandyQuilts
Amy's Crafty Shenanigans
The Moda Chantilly charm pack was won by Kathy Davis. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone for stopping by and helping me celebrate!

A local quilter emailed me and told me that she had taken her Twist and Shout to be quilted, so when I was at Cut UP and Quilt the other night, I took a peek...and pictures. She used 2 different florals  that seem to be climbing posts.
Lorraine's quilt
I love what she did to end them! Quilters are so creative! If you make Twist and Shout, please send me pictures of it...I love to see them!

It's here!

I had a box waiting for me after work last night....You can see Mr. Snoopy Pants is in the background waiting to pounce in the box. My cats do love a good box.

It was my Peas In A Pod quilt back from McCalls Quick Quilts magazine.

They sent me a couple issues of the magazine too! It is will be out in stores Feb. 26.
One more day of the book fair today, and then it's packing it up time. It's been fun, but it will be nice to get back to a normal schedule. I have sold lots of books, so I get to do some shopping of my own now for the library.

Peas in a Pod is popping up everywhere soon!

If you think....hmmmm...this looks a little nicer than the pictures she usually takes, you would be correct.  This picture was taken by McCalls Quick Quilts Magazine. My Peas in a Pod quilt is featured in the April/May 2013 issue, coming out soon. I was so surprised last night to see it on their facebook page. My design is a lap size quilt.  As you have probably guessed, I am pretty excited about this! I just recently taught several sessions of this class at a local quilt shop. It's a great quilt for beginners, but any quilter will have fun making it.
I have made several versions of this quilt over the past 2 years, but this one is definitely my favorite. I used bright prints (lots of dots!) that would be great for a kid's quilt, but would cheer up most any room.I thought long and hard about what design to use in the quilting. A circular pattern would soften the straight lines and angles of the quilt and also give it some movement, so that's what I did.
I chose this bold multicolored polka dot for the back....I love polka dots!
I was pretty worried while quilting it...I was really busy at the time, school had started and  I had lots of quilt classes lined up to teach. What if my machine started acting up? It's pretty dependable, but sometimes when you least suspect it, it will decide to mess up. (I'm pretty sure it's not the driver!) It all went well in the end, thank goodness!
I like to do a photo shoot of my own when I finish a quilt top and also when I finish the quilting so I have a record of the quilt. Sometimes there is a great lapse of time between the two. Do you photograph your quilts?
