Honeycomb Waffle Too class

I had a great time last Sat. teaching the techniques to make the Honeycomb Waffle, Too quilt. Lots of enthusiasm and a new quilter who really needed to make that quilt. We all know that feeling, right?
I love watching these 3-D blocks come together. The book ABC 3-D Tumbling Blocks and More by Marci Baker makes it so easy to do these types of quilts.

I sewed with the Tuesday Sewers yesterday...another thing I love about summer break! I put the back together for the Red, White and True quilt and made the binding. I hit a little snag in my quilting plans when I hurt my knee the other night, but hope to get it loaded soon and quilted. I had planned to load the new sampler and get it quilted too, but haven't been able to.

Anyway...I also worked on some more blocks for the working model that I've been using for the classes. I hope to get it finished this summer. I am using mostly blacks and grays for this version.
My second Honeycomb Waffle, Too quilt, in progress

I've added the link to the free Craftsy version of the Red, White and True Quilt Along Guidelines and Supply List. It is in PDF form, so you will need Adobe Reader to download it. I will add a PDF version of the pattern for each week's tutorial to Craftsy for easy downloading and saving. These will be in pattern form, not tutorials.  Then you can save to your computer and make it again.

I would love to see your fabric choices on my Flickr group....head over there and add a picture! If you have any problems, let me know and I will add them for you. I think it will be fun to watch everyone's progress.

Red, White and True Quilt Along

Red, White and True quilt
I'm excited to tell you about a new event on my blog, the Red, White and True Quilt Along. I've wanted to do a quilt along for a long time, but time flies by so quickly during the school year that it just hasn't happened. Summer gives me a bit more free time plus time to play! So get ready to quilt a long with me! You can work on this quilt week by week and have something beautiful at the end. If you are not into patriotic prints, you can make the quilt out of any other fabrics that catch your eye!

First off, some Guidelines for the Red, White and True Quilt Along. The guidelines will be accessible through the location bar at the top of the page.
  • Make the Red, White and True quilt using the weekly tutorials. The free patterns will also be available every week on Craftsy  so you can print it out easily.
  • Quilt can be made using any fabrics. It doesn't have to be red, white and blue to participate.
  • The pattern will be available in two sizes. Add or subtract blocks, you can make it any size you want!
  • Join the Flickr group, Quiltinjeanie Designs Red White and True Quilt Along and post pictures as you go!
  • Join the weekly Link Party to share your experience making this modern, graphic quilt.
  • Have fun! Let's get started!

You can definitely use stash fabrics...using several red, blue and white prints instead of one per color. I've listed the fabric requirements below so you can be ready to start cutting on Monday, June 22, 2015. Start looking through your fabrics for just the right ones for this project! Once you've found them, feel free to post pictures in my Flickr group, the link is above. Or let me know and I can post them for you.

Fabric requirements
                                             Throw 46”x 58      Twin 64" x 88"
  • Background:               1 ½  yd.                   2 ¾ yd.
  • Color 1 Red:                    1 yd.                   1 ⅝ yd.
  • Color 2 Blue:                  ¾ yd.                   1 ¼ yd.
  • Final Border:               1 ¼ yd.                   1 ¾ yd.
My inspiration for this quilt was originally the IA shop hop fabrics, but I already have plans to make another quilt using this pattern and non-patriotic fabrics. So I plan to sew with you to make that version.

New project

The red and blue are this year's IA shop hop fabric, gray and white is 2014 IA fabric, still available at CUAQ, and the fireworks....I just liked them. They are not part of  the IA hop fabrics.
I have been enjoying my first few days off work. I sewed two days with friends and made it out to Cut Up and Quilt to pick up some of the new IA shop hop fabric. I have been working on a design for the past few weeks, so I was anxious to get started.

The IA hop fabric has a patriotic theme this year, because of the IA caucuses. I decided that I would make something smaller that could be used for a table topper or wall hanging since it would be a more seasonal project. Plus it's fun to make smaller projects occasionally...everything doesn't have to be bed sized, right?
This project will be part of an upcoming online event soon...stay tuned.
Red Axel Blocks made!
I'm teaching the Honeycomb Waffle, Too class again today. It's a fun one to teach and I always get lots of pictures to share. We have a family wedding tonight, so I will be heading to my hometown right after class for that. I volunteered to make pasta salad for the wedding, so that kept me busy last night!
Have a great Saturday!
