Busy weekend... class, party, a hanging....

I taught the Circle and Spin class again on Saturday...it is so much fun to teach, just to see the range of fabrics and the designs you can make. We had batiks...
 oldies but goodies...
 brights....
 more batiks...
 homespuns...
 more batiks....
and more brights....one of them did get away without getting her picture taken, but I will get it one of these days!

After the class, I went to the 3rd birthday party of my great nephew at Amazing Pizza Machine. I hadn't been there before, but it truly is an amazing place.

For those of you who check for upcoming classes here, I haven't gotten that page updated yet, but will soon. I hung the Jigsaw Puzzle quilt yesterday at the store....that class is being offered twice in April.
I used multi colored bright thread on this quilt and really like how it turned out. I still need to quilt the Spinning Hexagons that I made during the retreat. Might use the same thread as it is lots of color.

Long time, no blog...

I'm baaaaack...I hope anyway! My computer has been out of commission for about 10 days....after installing a new harddrive, I hope it is ok now.

Lots of things have been happening....but the most fun thing was going on a 3 day quilting retreat with friends.  I finished the new sampler quilt top (truthfully, I had if finished except for the border!).I also started 2 other projects. We all took projects to work on, it wasn't an organized retreat where someone had projects for us. We got lots done!

So everyone worked on their own new or partially done quilts.

Here is the new sampler....not a great pic, but will post a better one when I get it.
I started and finished this topper  and started the puzzle quilt below.
I finished quilting this one last night, so will post a pic when I get a good one.

Sewing, partying and more sewing...

I have been busy working on my new Sampler quilt. Since we had 2 snow days this week, I got more done than I would have otherwise. I have the 12 main blocks finished and am working on the alternate blocks. I picked out the border fabrics yesterday after class so have everything I need to finish this quilt. This is another one of the blocks. I love the dainty look of the fan blades.
I had a nice quilt salad when I was finished trimming half square triangles.

I was surprised last night when a dinner outing with my daughters turned into a surprise birthday party for me! They changed the restaurant at the last minute and when I got there I was met with  a group of family and friends  to celebrate. What a surprise! I don't know how they kept it a secret, because this was the 3rd planning of the party. The first 2 were cancelled because of family illness and a family funeral, so I guess 3rd time is a charm. It was great fun!

Had a great time during UFO day yesterday as well....lots of sewing, and gabbing! I will post more pix of UFO day as well as sampler blocks in the next couple days...need to go sew now!

New Sampler

I do a series of classes I call Sampler Clubs that meet once a month for 6 months. So every 6 months I need to design a new one so that the group doing the newest one can keep going. I have several people in this class that have done all 12 samplers so far and have taken classes with me since I began teaching them. I also reteach them as people want them, so I usually have 4 or 5 Sampler Clubs going on at once.

I have been working on the design for the new quilt for a month or so, but finally started sewing Sunday. I decided to use batiks because I have quite a nice collection, including some new ones I got for Christmas. I got 2 blocks done on Sunday.
I worked on the third last night, but this is as far as I got.....

Classes and other stuff... well, just hexies I guess...

What happens when you start stringpiecing? Your strings seem to multiply and start leaping all over your table. These strings were much more orderly when they came in their box!
Saturday's Spiderweb Stringpiecing class went very well, with everyone getting lots of use out of their strings.

As you can see, everyone got at least one block finished and they all had parts of more done as well. I can't wait to see these quilts finished!

I got 3 more hexie flowers done and a couple more started.

A win!

I was lucky enough to win a gift card to Fashionable Fabrics on Sew-fantastic's blog the other day....I am so excited because now I get to go shop. I have been getting dangerously low on fabric since I have been quilting quite a bit, so it couldn't come at a better time!  I have been checking out the site and it is loaded with beautiful fabrics. I will keep you posted on what I choose!
I started a new Sampler group Wednesday night. Didn't do much of anything last night.  I am teaching the Spiderweb Stringpiecing tomorrow and I know that will be a fun class.

Tonight I am going out with my daughters to dinner. Maybe I will feel ambitious when I get home and work on some more hexies.

I'm on a roll....

I finished quilting my fourth quilt for my friend the other day. I am over the hump, with three left for her. I need to get to work now on a new Sampler quilt, so might not get too much quilting done the next few weeks.

I worked on hexies last night....got a couple more sewn together.

The way the beads on the blue go around, I think I should've cut a new one that matched for the one on the left touching the orange hexie. It is funny how it worked out.
