Project Runway, here we come!

They might not be ready for Project Runway yet, but these girls got a good start on their sewing adventures yesterday.
Lots of cute fabrics and happy smiles!
It was her birthday, so she brought cupcakes to share for lunch.
Sometimes adults take the kids camps as well....Whitney has taken a pillow class before.
You might remember Mia from the pillow class last week. This is her fourth class with me over the past year or so. She really loves sewing.

We took our normal "runway" walk through the store to show off our pants...the clerks love to see the kids and their projects.
Kids Camp 2013 is officially over. It's been great fun...now on to something new!

Funny group of Kids Campers!

I had a great day helping another group of campers make pj pants. These girls are in the same 4H group so not only do they know each other, they go to the same school, too. They were very patient waiting for help and were very helpful to each other.
They were also very good at posing for pictures!
You could see their enthusiasm the minute they walked in the classroom. They have been working on projects all year to take to the county fair next week.

We went on a store walk through to show off the pants....everyone loved them, but the girls were up to more hi-jinks along the way! It really was a fun day!

I have had quite a few 4 H members in my classes, so I think I had better go to the fair next week!

Kid's Camp pillow fun!

I taught another Kids Camp session of the Cobblestone Pillow yesterday. These girls did a wonderful job! Jackie is taking hers to the fair and hopes to earn a ribbon.
Mia just loves to sew and had taken the Flop-Easy Pillow class last winter. She made hers to match her bedspread.
When I teach kids camps I limit the class size to four or five so that I can help them when they need help.      Usually they are beginners and don't have much machine experience. I had 3 more girls signed up for the class yesterday, but they didn't come so I'm not sure what happened.  The camps have been really popular this year, I have taught four so far and have two more PJ Pants classes next week. Many of them are getting ready for fair, so I want to go to the fair and see all of their cute projects!

After supper last night I worked on my English Paper Piecing Hexie project for awhile. As you can see if you follow the link, I started this quite a while ago. I worked on it off and on in the evenings for awhile, but  I really haven't worked on it for a long time. Seeing Mary working on hers at Quiltfest, plus someone brought theirs to sewing day the other day got me thinking about it again, so maybe I can get it finished this time. It was never going to be a big quilt, I just wanted to try out the technique.

The weather is supposed to be a little cooler today...80s instead of 90s. I plan on loading a quilt on the machine so that I can quilt it over the next few days. I need to keep that machine humming as well as my sewing machine this summer! I want to get back to the letter project too. No rest for the quilters!

Lovin' these PJ Pants!

Some big smiles after working all day making PJ Pants! We went for a "fashion walk" through the store to show off their hard work and clerks as well as customers enjoyed it.
I spent Monday working with five sweet young ladies during Kids Camp. They learned the first steps to making garments and really enjoyed it. In fact, when they finished, they had a few extra minutes, so they were busy making things out of their leftover fabrics.
It was great fun...I have another Kids Camp class on Wednesday making the Cobblestone Pillow

Kid's Camp ...let's make pillows!

We had lots of fun yesterday making Cobblestone blocks during Kid's Camp 2013. I had three of the girls from last week's PJ pants class, so they are starting to feel like old pros. They made good use of the design walls during class and were excited when they could start putting up blocks to admire!

Sometimes the machines came unthreaded, or otherwise acted up, but for the most part they cooperated nicely!
Kelsey was so excited to have her pillow top ready for the back while Jordan patiently waited for her mom to fix her thread issues!

They loved their pillows, and were practicing laying on the floor with them at one point!
They all chose their own colors and were so proud of what they had accomplished. Courtenay had done some sewing on a Quilts of Valor quilt, so had some experience.
Maddie made this pillow for her older brother since she had made the PJ pants for herself....isn't she a sweetie? She told the story of how they went to pick out the fabric and he told her she didn't need to make it for him. She could make it for herself. But then he saw this music fabric and he loves band, so he picked it out. She said, "I guess he wants a pillow after all!" I think she will have a hard time parting with it!

I could easily fabric shop with these girls, they all like the same fabrics as I do!

Amanda picked the colors of her room for her pillow. She also wore pink to class!
They were excited and happy to finish their pillows. Three of the five girls will be taking their projects to the fair in July.

Kid's Camp, Pajama Pants!

I taught a great group of girls a beginning sewing class yesterday....making pj pants. I had quite a variety of ages, but all were very enthusiastic!
They had all chosen their favorite fabrics and learned a few basics about sewing with a pattern. I used Simplicity 2290, which is a great pattern to begin with since it's just one pattern piece. You cut one for each side, so you  only have 2 pieces to sew together. PJ pants have a looser fit so that's a bonus for young sewers, too.
Aunt Nikki brought her niece to class and they both made pants.
We did a fashion parade to show the shop employees their beautiful pants!
They were suitable impressed. I lined them up for a group picture. Love those proud smiles!
Three of the girls are taking another Kid's Camp class next week....they will be making the Cobblestone Floor Pillow.

I taught the Wednesday night Sampler Pick group in the evening, so I had a high volume quilty day!

Today I want to work on the new quilt and figure out where I go from here...having lunch with a friend and then heading to the Omaha Quilt Guild show this afternoon with friends. I love going to this show for the inspiration. Plus there will be some vendors there too....oh yea! My friends from Cut Up and Quilt were busy making up kits for the show when I was there the other day. If you stop by to see them, tell them "hi" for me! Hopefully I will have some pictures tomorrow. If you live in the area, it's a must see. It will be going on through Saturday.

Almost a pillow and class finishes!

You might remember back in March when I taught the Circle and Spin class to a local quilt club. We had a great time, so they invited me back to teach them a different technique of paper piecing using the Sparkling Prisms design. When I arrived yesterday for that class, they had brought some show and tell for me!

Evelyn's granddaughter requested an all purple quilt....so she set to work on this beauty. She finished it by quilting it herself on her daughter's quilt machine.
Earl's top is finished and ready to quilt! So bright and colorful! Another of the quilters had finished her top, but forgot to bring it. I love seeing the finished quilts from my classes! More pictures of yesterday's class tomorrow...

After dinner, I worked on the Cobblestone Pillow model for the kid's class this summer. It's almost a pillow! At least in this picture you can tell it's pink and teal!

Today I need to finish quilting the flying geese quilt and do some cleaning...after being sick the past couple weeks, it looks pretty bad around here.

What do you think...pillow or no pillow??

I picked out this pink polka dot fabric last night to use with the teal  fabric in a pillow for a kid's sewing class. There are pink dots in the teal fabric, so I think it will be cute. What do you think, too many dots or just the right amount?

I really tackle the tough issues, right?

The Sampler class went well last night...it's fun to get to know the different quilters and catch up with their news once a month. One of them brought some show and tell...always love that.  Two of the quilters in that class are beginners, and mother and daughter,  and really loving every minute of their experience. That's fun to be a part of also.

Not quilting, but still sewing...

I usually teach some kid's sewing and quilting classes in the summer. What better way to teach Beginning Sewing than by making some pj pants?
I picked out this cute polka dot fabric and got to work! Used some polka dot ribbon for a decorative trim...Almost finished!

Here they are....all ready for class! I think everyone needs a pair of these, don't you?
